A Vanta alternative for the questionnaire itself

A compliance platform. Continuous control monitoring, policy management, evidence collection and audit readiness, with questionnaire automation as one product inside it.

How Vanta does it

Taken from their own page, 2026-08-30.

  • Answers are drawn from a knowledge base built out of previous questionnaires and documents and policies uploaded to Vanta.
  • Where an exact match is found, the previous response is pulled through. Where none exists, the AI generates a cited response for a person to review and approve.
  • Answers can be tuned for length and tone, and tagged by product, region and industry.
  • Unanswered questions can be assigned to subject-matter experts.
  • The page claims 80% or more of questions are answered automatically, and that AI answers are accepted up to 95% of the time, with a note that results vary with what is in the knowledge base.

What Vanta is better at

Written because it is true. If any of these is what you need, buy theirs — you will be happier and we would rather you were.

  • Being one system for the whole compliance problem. If you also need SOC 2 monitoring, policy management and evidence collection, buying those separately is a worse life.
  • Integrations. Pulling evidence automatically out of your cloud and HR systems is a large piece of engineering and they have done it.
  • Being an established vendor. A procurement team that has heard of your tooling vendor is a procurement team asking fewer questions.
  • Scale and support. There is a company behind it with people whose job is to answer you.

The difference that matters

Vanta answers 80% of your questions and routes the rest to a person. FillTrust is built around the other 20%. When your documents do not support an answer, it leaves the box empty and names the document you would need — rather than generating something plausible for you to approve. That is a smaller promise and a different one: it is the difference between a tool that finishes the sheet and a tool that will not sign your name to a control you cannot evidence.

Choose Vanta if

  • You want one platform for compliance, not one tool for questionnaires.
  • You need automated evidence collection from your infrastructure.
  • You are already paying for a compliance platform and the questionnaire feature is included.

Choose FillTrust if

  • You meet a handful of questionnaires a year and do not need a compliance platform to go with them.
  • You care more about what a tool refuses to answer than about how much of the sheet it fills.
  • You want the passage behind every answer, in the sheet, so a reviewer can check it without opening a document.
  • You want to pay for one questionnaire when you have one questionnaire.

See it decline to answer

The demo runs the same questionnaire against three companies with very different documentation. One answers eight of eight. One answers two. That spread is the whole argument, and no account is needed to look at it.
